Flies

Housefly (Musca domestica)

Appearance: It is 4-7.5 mm long and it has 4 longitudinal black lines on the thorax.

Reproduction: The female lays 70-150 eggs. Average time for the development of flies is 8-11 days. Due to high summer temperatures development cycle can finish in 6 days. Temperatures above 45°C kill cocoons and pupae.

Habits and habitat: They feed by sucking juices, milk, honey and sugar. They spend most of the time in sunny places. The habitats of flies change in relation to the time of day, so during the day they live on lower levels, most often in stables where animals can be found, while they spend the night on the ceiling or upper levels of various dwellings and they do not live on animals.

Drain fly (Psychodidae)

Appearance: A tiny brown fly, similar to a small butterfly, covered with dense hairs.

Reproduction: It lays eggs in sanitary siphons, and its development cycle lasts for 2-3 weeks.

Habits and habitat: It lives in sewage water, on accumulations of the sewage system waste, in black pits, sewage tops and sewage treatment plants.

Removal of these flies is based on hygienic maintenance and degreasing of siphons and drain pipes using hot water and products to clean or break clogs.

Fruit fly (Drosophilidae)

Appearance: A small fly, 2-4 mm long.

Reproduction: It lays approximately 500 eggs on vegetal or animal organic matter. Its whole development cycle lasts for about 25 days.

Habits and habitat: During the grape harvest period they may swarm into the living areas, staying in warmer and brighter places, and causing discomfort to the tenants.
